Outcome goals for this academic school year

2024-25 SIIP At-a-Glance

Katherine Johnson Middle School

Region 5

Mr. Chris Smith, Principal

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Outcomes

● 100% of Students with Disabilities will meet or exceed screener benchmark stretch goal in iReady by June of 2025.
● The percentage of students meeting or exceeding screener benchmark will increase from fall to spring by 20%.

Strategies

● Use formative integrated reading and writing tasks (i.e. reading responses, annotations)
● Increase opportunities to explicitly teach vocabulary using evidence-based methods (i.e. semantic feature analysis, analyzing word parts, frayer model, defining words in context, semantic mapping, etc.)
● Utilize small groups and intervention to increase opportunities for students who need more practice to master standards

SUCCESS IN ALGEBRA BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL

Outcomes

● The SWD category for the Math SOL SOA Combined pass rate will increase from 55.7% (2024) to at least a 66% by the Spring of 2025.
● By spring 2025, the percent of grade 8 students who receive a Verified credit in Algebra will increase from 65% (2024) to 70%.

Strategies

● Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
● Improve collaborative teams’ alignment of instructional planning based on analysis of common assessments.
● Increase systems of support during the school day, after school and summer to help students achieve success in mathematics.

DISCIPLINE

Outcomes

● As KJMS is 23% Hispanic/Latino, we will reduce the number of referrals associated with Hispanic students from the current 54% by at least 10 percentage points or more, so that it is proportional to our school's demographics.

● As KJMS is 17.59% Multi Language Learners, we will reduce the number of referrals associated with Multi Language Learner from the current 41% by at least 10 percentage points or more, so that it is proportional to our school's demographics.

● As KJMS is 13.47% Exceptional Education Learners, we will reduce the number of referrals associated with SWD from the current 22% by at least 5 percentage points or more, so that it is proportional to our school's demographics.

Strategies

● Utilize an MTSS framework to establish and organize a schoolwide continuum of proactive behavior and wellness supports which will provide targeted interventions to students at different level of need.
● Implement Leveled Responses to Student Behaviors: Staff Managed for classroom issues, Office Managed for interventions beyond. Provide clear guidelines for consistency and effectiveness, promoting division-wide behavior management. Utilize the office-managed/staff-managed document consistently.
● Leverage existing structures to support discipline practices.

STUDENT GROUP

Outcomes

● The SWD category for the Math SOL SOA Combined pass rate will increase from 55.7% (2024) to at least a 66% by the Spring of 2025.

Strategies

● Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
● Improve collaborative teams’ alignment of instructional planning based on analysis of common assessments.
● Increases students' self-efficacy around the ability to be successful in mathematics.

SCIENCE

Outcomes

● By the end of SY24-25, Science SOL scores for all students will increase 3% from the Spring 2024 SOL test to the Spring 2025 SOL test as measured by the pass rate.

Strategies

● Increase opportunities to apply and demonstrate understanding of vocabulary through evidence-based arguments and reasoning.
● Strengthen the use of scaffolds to support students’ development of rigorous science and engineering practices, including modeling scientific questioning, using graphic organizers.
● Expand opportunities to meaningfully integrate science within and across content areas to include literacy skills, mathematical reasoning, and global context.
